The Northern Virginia B-Team League is designed to allow the mid-range (5 – 15 handicaps) golfer an environment of highly competitive golf in a match play format. The match format is two-man teams competing against our opponent’s two-man team. There are three matches at home and three matches away. Each match is worth 3 points - 1 for the front, 1 for the back, and 1 for the overall for a total of 18 points and 9.5 at least for a win (144 points available for each team in the regular season). Ties result in sudden death only during the playoffs - regular season ties stand - better than a loss but not as good as a win!
Piedmont plays the West Division each year (Heritage Hunt, Dominion Valley, Evergreen and Chantilly). Each year, 4 of 5 opponents from another Division (East, South, North) comprise the remaining 4 matches and form a Conference. Division standings are based on won-lost record with 2 points for a win and 1 point for a tie. The 2 wildcard teams in the Conference are the two teams with the most cumulative total points, so each and every point won is critical.
After each match, we retreat to the clubhouse to enjoy food, beverage and the camaraderie of our opponents. Each team plays an 8 match schedule from April through August. Eight teams qualify for the playoffs to compete for the league championship.
